1)

    Inside Out Fitness: Think, Eat, & Move Better:

Through interactive and lively discussion, lecture and activities, this workshop will provide participants a brief overview of the 6 dimensions of wellness, which are also known as the SPICES of life (social, physical, intellectual, creative/occupational, emotional, and spiritual) . We will review the risk factors associated that are related to lifestyle factors such as diabetes, obesity, heart disease, emphysema, osteoporosis, back problems, and certain cancers. Participants will leave this session with effective, efficient & affordable, wellness & health strategies for thinking, eating, & moving their way to better wellness which they can start putting into practice immediately.

    Parent Thyself: Wellness Strategies for Parents & Caregivers:

Through interactive and lively discussion and lecture, this workshop will provide participants a brief overview of “The Parents 10” (love & affection, stress management, relationship skills, autonomy & independence, education & learning, life skills, behavior management, health habits, religion, safety). We will explore the parent stress management competency in the most depth. Parents & caregivers will leave this session with efficient, effective and affordable, wellness and stress management strategies which they can immediately integrate into their lives.

    Family Matters: Strategies for Healthy Weight Families:

Through interactive and lively discussion, lecture and activities, this workshop will discuss the alarming statistic that over the past three decades, childhood obesity rates in America have tripled, and today, nearly one in three children in America are overweight or obese. Childhood obesity is correlated with Heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, Asthma, Sleep Apnea & Social discrimination. Help parents/ caregiver become wellness role models & physical fitness providers by provide them with a brief overview of the 6 dimensions of wellness, which are also known as the SPICES of life ( social, physical, intellectual, creative/occupational, emotional & spiritual) . Discuss & brainstorm ways to incorporate the 5 Healthy Weight Families Strategies into participant’s lives. 1) Focus on wholesome, nutritious foods, 2) Include treats in the families diet, 3) Aim to keep non-homework screen time at 2 hours (or less) per day, 4) Try to be active an hour or more per day, 5) The 5 strategies apply to everyone in the home. Participants will leave this session with efficient, effective and affordable, strategies for improving their overall physical wellness of their families which they can start putting into practice immediately.

We will review the NIDDK’s Obesity & Overweight & Physical Activity Statistics for Adults, Children & Teens. We will discuss how obesity affects our whole body. We will discuss binge eating disorder and bulimia. Participants will leave this session with effective, efficient & affordable weight management strategies that they can put into practice immediately.

Identify the links between emotional eating, compulsive eating, Binge Eating Disorder & the obesity crisis in America. Discuss the triggers to eating , reasons & emotions people eat when they aren’t physically hungry. Discuss & brainstorm social, physical, intellectual, creative, emotional & spiritual strategies for forging a new relationship with food including learning about My Plate food groups, how to plan meals in advance & monitor food consumption, weigh yourself, set realistic goals & how to calculate calorie needs/ BMR.     When Working Out Isn’t Working Out: 10 Fitness Strategies that Work

Through interactive and lively discussion, lecture and activities, this workshop will Provide participants with a brief overview of the 6 dimensions of wellness, which are also known as the SPICES of life (social, physical, intellectual, creative/occupational, emotional, and spiritual) . Particular emphasis will be placed in the emotional and physical aspects of exercise. Discuss exercise concepts such as: physical fitness, spontaneous exercise, planned/ structured exercise, cardiovascular vs anaerobic exercise, strength training, balance/flexibility, mind/body exercise. Provide participants with a brief overview of the stages of change and help them understand that change is a difficult process but if the benefits of change are more significant than the barriers to change then change usually occurs. Help participants identify their wellness related barriers against & benefits of all forms of exer-cise. Discuss and brainstorm cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and practical strategies for increasing, adhering to or maintaining an exercise program. Participants will leave this session with efficient, effective and affordable, strategies for improving their overall wellness and strategies for making their works outs work out which they can start putting into practice immediately.

    Yes I Can: Fitness Activities for Non-Fitness Instructors

Through interactive and lively discussion, lecture & activities, this workshop will Provide participants with a brief overview the 6 Dimensions of Wellness. Discuss the multiple wellness benefits of physical fitness for kids. Teach participants 5 – 8 Fit Kid Games that they can play with their before and after school students. If time, participants will role play some of the Fit Kid Games from today’s session. Participants will leave the session with online resources for learning Fit Kid Games .

    Can You Hear Me Now? Strategies for Helping Parents Talk and Listen More Effectively to Their Teens

Through discussion and lecture, this interactive and fun workshop will provide participants an overview of the most common issues that parents and teens experience. After a brief discussion of adolescent brain development, and Erickson’s Stages of human development , we will discuss 8 commu-nication strategies: 1. Listen more, talk less – use empathy. 2. Less is sometimes more – brevity. 3. Use praise for being and praise for doing. 4. In-volve teens in family decisions. 5. Engage teens in joint problem solving. 6. Display genuine interest in their day. 7. Be fair, respectful, and supportive. 8. Spend regular time together .Participants will leave the session with communication skills that they use to drastically improve their relationship with their teens.

    Creating Smooth Transitions: Strategies for easing transitions throughout the adolescent years

This interactive workshop will provide participants an overview of the most common transitions that adolescents experience and strategies that grand-parents, parents, guardians can use to help ease the process. We will discussion some of the transitions that teens experience such as moving from a high school setting to a college setting , moving to middle school, high school, or college, moving from student role to an employee role, moving to a different city, going through puberty, losing a boyfriend or girlfriend relationship, events like death, divorce or remarriage in their immediate family. Participants will leave the session with communication strategies that they can use with their adolescents including 5 must have skills: 1. Am I encouraging open dialogue? , 2. Am I encouraging my adolescent to discover his own solutions to his problems? 3. Am I setting aside one-on-one bonding time? 4. Am I discussing the dangers of drugs, alcohol, sex, and how these can sometimes accompany their life transitions? 5. Am I monitoring and communicating more?
